About Us

If you’re heading into Aberdeen from the east, you can’t miss it. A western storefront that feels more like a destination than a stop along the way. Around here, it’s known as “Quite Possibly the Coolest Store Ever.”

The Hitch’n Post is a family-owned business that has been serving Northeastern South Dakota since 1970. What started as a western store on the edge of town has grown into a 10,000 square foot destination for boots, jeans, hats, and authentic western style. Through expansions, changing trends, and decades of growth in Aberdeen, one thing has stayed the same: a commitment to quality and to the people who walk through the door.

Owners Terry and Kathryn “Pete” Larson have been at the heart of the business since the early 1980s. Together, they weathered economic downturns, shifting markets, and the rise of online shopping by sticking to a simple philosophy: work hard, treat people right, and take care of your business. That mindset, paired with a strong team of dedicated employees, has kept customers coming back for generations.

The Hitch’n Post isn’t just for cowboys. It’s for anyone who appreciates well-made clothing, timeless style, and a store with real personality. From workwear to going-out wear, from ranchers to families to first-time visitors, there’s something here for everyone.

Today, the next generation is helping carry the legacy forward, blending tradition with new ideas through expanded inventory, social media, and online shopping. But at its core, the Hitch’n Post is still what it has always been: a place built on relationships, rooted in community, and proud to be local.

After more than 50 years, we’re still here because of you. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
